About the Role

The Operations Analyst is responsible for effective business operations within the department, including data gathering, analysis, research, reporting, and supporting departmental projects. The role also provides administrative support for invoicing, purchase requisitions, data administration, and project management to leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with stakeholders to identify, capture, and analyze business requirements.
  • Support departmental activities to derive insights from business unit data and recommend actions.
  • Conduct analysis of large datasets with multiple variables and present findings through reports, process maps, graphs, charts, or tables.
  • Assist in the coordination, delivery, and execution of projects.
  • Maintain and develop databases or decision support tools and systems.
  • Suggest and implement process and procedure enhancements for departmental efficiency.
  • Assist in defining project scope, drafting business cases, conducting feasibility studies, and completing cost-benefit analysis.
  • Provide support to management and technology systems, including enterprise systems (e.g., SAP), data management, and reporting.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on current and future states, driving data-driven operations.
  • Act as a departmental subject matter expert for initiatives.
  • Stay current with industry developments and practices, particularly in investment planning and information technology.
  • Work in accordance with safety performance standards and promote a safety culture.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 1 or more years of experience in business analytics or data management (co-op included).
  • Knowledge of and experience in utility operations is an asset.
  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including advanced working knowledge in MS Excel, MS Project, MS Access, and MS Word.
  • Proficient in data management practices, capable of extracting, querying, and analyzing large data sets.
  • Intermediate knowledge of programming languages (e.g., R, Python, C/C++, VBA) to support data analytics is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Tableau, Alteryx, and/or SAP is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience with machine learning and neural network algorithms in practical applications is an asset.
  • Awareness of project management processes, principles, and methodologies.
  • Business and strategic thinking acumen.
  • Understanding of statutory and regulatory obligations related to the electric utility industry.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and business solution development skills, with the ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
