About the Role

DreamYard is seeking passionate and experienced Dance & Music/Production Teaching Artists for residency opportunities in Bronx partner schools. The role involves teaching art fundamentals and integrating them with other curriculum areas, fostering a creative and equitable learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Teach in-school and/or after school programs, not exceeding 18 weekly hours of direct instruction and 9 hours of weekly planning meetings.
• Provide instruction in the arts, developing skills consistent with NYC Blueprint and integrating with school curriculum.
• Teach and plan for 2-8 in-school sessions per week and/or up to 4 after-school sessions per week.
• Develop long-term, project-based unit designs in collaboration with classroom teachers.
• Assess student learning based on defined goals and objectives.
• Organize at least 2 sharings of student work with teaching partners and colleagues.
• Collaborate with classroom teacher partners on lesson planning, co-teaching, and building arts instruction capacity.
• Coordinate at least one trip to a NYC cultural institution or one guest artist per class.
• Complete curriculum maps, student rosters, and document project plans using DreamYard templates.
• Collect portfolios of student work through photos, videos, and artifacts.
• Participate in DreamYard’s annual Teaching Artist retreat.
• Participate in 40 hours of DreamYard TA professional development.
• Pursue individualized professional development through coaching.
• Contribute to the professional development of TA staff by sharing expertise.
• Collaborate on identifying and preparing student work for public events.
• Participate in one or more public events annually.
• Collaborate with Development and Administrative staff on gathering information for external communications.

Requirements

• Expertise in an arts discipline, demonstrated through an educational degree and/or professional accomplishment.
• Minimum two years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) teaching experience in an arts discipline within a school and/or community-based setting.
• Teaching experience in NYC public schools preferred.
• Department of Education fingerprinting (PETS) will be required.
