About the Role

DreamYard is seeking passionate and experienced Teaching Artists in various disciplines for the 2023-24 school year. This role involves teaching in school, after school, and summer residency opportunities, focusing on social justice and racial equity within our Bronx partner schools and the DreamYard Art Center.

Responsibilities

Design and facilitate robust project-based learning through a social justice lens.
Plan and facilitate instruction in the arts and through the arts to achieve academic goals.
Teach and plan for in-school and after-school sessions.
Develop long-term project-based unit designs in collaboration with classroom teachers.
Assess participant learning based on learning goals and residency objectives.
Organize at least 2 sharings of student work.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan lessons, share skills, and co-teach.
Coordinate cultural institution trips and/or guest artists for in-school residencies.
Design and facilitate project-based entrepreneurship curriculum for the Legacy Internship Program.
Conceptualize and coordinate opportunities for interns to share their work.
Supervise and mentor college-aged Assistant Teaching Artists.
Complete intern and assistant teaching artist evaluation forms.
Complete curriculum maps, student rosters, and document project plans.
Collect portfolios of student work through photos, videos, and artifacts.
Participate in DreamYard’s annual Teaching Artist retreat.
Participate in 40 hours of DreamYard TA professional development.
Actively pursue individualized professional development through coaching.
Contribute to the professional development of TA staff by sharing expertise.
Collaborate on identifying and preparing student work for public events.
Collaborate with Development and Administrative staff on gathering information for external communications.

Requirements

Expertise in an arts discipline exhibited through an educational degree and/or professional accomplishment.
Minimum two years full-time (or equivalent) teaching an arts discipline in a school and/or community-based setting.
Teaching experience in NYC public schools preferred.
Department of Education fingerprinting (PETS) will be required.
