About the Role

Decontaminate, clean, process, and sterilize supplies and equipment dispensed by the department, following infection control practices and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Follows manufacturer instructions for use for steam and low temperature sterilization.
  • Follows manufacturer instructions for use for decontamination, disinfection of instruments, and flexible endoscopes according to department standards and industry guidelines.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of surgical instrument kits.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how to properly inspect and assemble kits.
  • Adheres to hospital policies for CSR as well as follow AAMI guidelines.
  • Performs equipment testing: Bowies and Biologicals, and reports any abnormal results to the supervisor.
  • Delivers sterile instruments and kits in a timely manner, within 48 hours, to other departments within the hospital.
  • Maintains a clean work environment in accordance to regulator guidelines and hospital policy.
  • Attends staff meetings and in services.
  • Stays up to date on departmental communication and required annual and periodical competencies.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff as needed.
  • Completes other daily tasks as requested and assigned.
  • Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
  • Answers the phone and takes messages when needed.
  • Helps with different reps that come in with trays or helps them taking trays out.
  • Helps the OR when they are looking for a kit or instrument.

Requirements

  • After one full time year of work experience, obtain central sterile certification.

Experience Level

  • 1 year of work experience

Education Level

  • High school diploma or GED
