About the Role
The Supervising Dental Assistant will provide support for Dentist and Hygienist services, focusing on patient care, infection control, and efficient work flow.
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day dental assistant operations of the Health Center, including scheduling dental assisting assignments or backup support.
- Supervise and complete annual performance evaluations for all direct reports.
- Provide direct assistance to the Dentist(s) and Hygienist(s) during clinical services.
- Order, receive, and restock supplies and instruments to maintain accurate inventory and ensure needs are met.
- Ensure strict adherence to sterilization, OSHA, and safety protocols for infection control.
- Provide patients with care instructions, assist with dental pre-medications, referrals, and prescription management as directed.
- Prepare and clean dental operatories before and after patient visits, and perform sterilization and processing of dental instruments.
- Maintain x-ray, laboratory, and utility areas of the dental department.
- Perform equipment checks and maintain accurate logs and compliance records.
- Ensure compliance with Health Center policies, guidelines, and all applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one-year experience in a dental setting or completion of Dental Certification required.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
- Valid NYS Driver's license that meets agency standards and reliable transportation.
