About the Role
We are seeking a customer and developer-focused engineer to design, implement, secure, and maintain the organization's API gateway platform and API management ecosystem. This role enables secure, scalable, and high-performing API services that support internal applications, customer-facing products, and third-party integrations, while contributing to API governance, operational reliability, developer enablement, and continuous platform improvement.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support API gateway platforms, configuring routing, traffic management, load balancing, caching, policy enforcement, API publishing, versioning, and lifecycle management.
- Implement API security and governance controls, configuring authentication, authorization, API key management, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, mutual TLS (mTLS), rate limiting, throttling, and related controls.
- Support platform operations and performance by monitoring availability, latency, throughput, utilization, and platform health, troubleshooting issues, performing root cause analysis, and optimizing gateway performance.
- Develop automation and DevOps capabilities by building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for API gateway deployments and developing CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborate on architecture and provide technical guidance by partnering with teams to design API integration solutions, reviewing API designs, and contributing to architecture discussions.
- Maintain documentation and drive continuous improvement by developing technical documentation, API standards, operational procedures, and implementation guidance.
- Evaluate emerging API management technologies and recommend improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- 2-3+ years of experience in API management, middleware, integration engineering, platform engineering, or related disciplines.
- Hands-on experience administering enterprise API gateway platforms such as Kong, Apigee, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, IBM API Connect, MuleSoft, WSO2, or similar technologies.
- Strong experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, JSON, XML, and microservices architecture.
- Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, mutual TLS (mTLS), API security controls, and identity management practices.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio, Linkerd, or similar platforms.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar technologies.
- Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
- Experience working in Agile, DevOps, or DevSecOps environments.
- Cloud, Kubernetes, API management, integration, or security certifications.
