About the Role
The M&S Stock Domain team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to modernize order management software, ensuring a seamless customer experience and supporting online growth through a scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-effective system. This role is key to building platforms and services for tracking and moving stock across the business, aiming for accurate, real-time stock visibility and availability.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve reliable data services, designing and developing scalable, high-performance pipelines and APIs in Java and Micronaut, integrating with event-streaming platforms like Kafka.
- Own features end-to-end, from design through development, testing, deployment, and production monitoring, balancing delivery speed with sustainability.
- Shape the technical direction of the Stock Platform by designing and evolving services, APIs, and event flows using a modern toolchain.
- Champion engineering excellence by writing clean, maintainable, well-tested code and establishing best practices.
- Drive operational excellence and observability, sharing responsibility for the reliability of data integrations and using observability tools.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and cross-functional engineering teams to solve business problems.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering an inclusive environment.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and scaling data-intensive distributed systems that handle large datasets.
- Proficiency in one or more JVM-based languages such as Java and Kotlin, ideally working with Micronaut.
- Experience designing and running CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) and driving improvements in developer productivity and release automation.
- Comfortable working in cloud environments (preferably Azure) and familiar with modern data processing and integration tools.
- Experience with Kafka for event streaming, SFTP for batch data ingestion, relational and NoSQL databases (MongoDB), and SaaS integrations.
- Understanding of domain-driven design, data contracts, and schema evolution.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery, considering commercial impacts.
- Experience using modern security and static-analysis tools such as Snyk and Semgrep.
- Openness to leveraging AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot.
