About the Role
The After School Social Recreation Specialist will organize and promote activities, considering the needs and interests of individual members, within a youth center environment.
Responsibilities
- Enforce rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
- Assist in organizing, leading, and promoting interest in recreational activities, such as arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies.
- Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other participants, explaining facility rules, and encouraging participation.
- Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in recreational activities and demonstrate use of materials and equipment.
Requirements
- A high school diploma is required.
- Some college experience is preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in youth development.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct and supervise recreational/leadership programs and services.
- Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18 as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
- Must be highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
