About the Role

This role is a 12-month fixed-term contract, offering an opportunity to contribute to delivering quality, value, and service to millions of customers. M&S is an inclusive, fast-moving, and evolving company with a strong sense of purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Merchandiser in agreeing strategy and targets for sales and stock forecasts by channel, including GSM Markdown and availability.
  • Analyze sales data to identify trends and take appropriate actions in collaboration with stakeholders to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Assist the Merchandiser and Buying team in formulating a detailed quarterly product plan across all channels, including International.
  • Book product quantities to meet launch dates and respond to in-season variables for all UK and International channels.
  • Assist with Department Plan reviews and lessons learned.
  • Manage departmental documentation for all sales periods, including markdown plans.
  • Maintain accurate listings in Range Planner.
  • Work with Sourcing Offices to manage the critical path from buy to delivery, including global capacity management and production plans with suppliers.
  • Provide information to the Space Planning & Development team for store layout plans.
  • Maintain awareness of competitor product offers to inform price point strategy.
  • Maintain communication links with retail, channels, allocation, suppliers, sourcing offices, and international teams.
  • Implement and exploit new systems and processes.
  • Assist the International team to maximize departmental sales during International Buying events.

Requirements

  • Core Merchandising skills including managing GSM, Department Plan development, stock/commitment management, sales estimates, and production plans.
  • Knowledge of the end-to-end buy-to-store process.
  • Ability to control unplanned in-season costs.
  • Negotiation skills for managing in-season unplanned costs.
  • Knowledge of M&S brand and sub-brand strategy.
  • Proficiency in IT support systems (Range Planner, SSI, SAS Reporting, JDA Merch Planning) and standard business desktop applications.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and interpretive skills.
  • Ability to initiate and build strong relationships with Design, Buying, and Technology teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Influencing skills (internal & external).
