About the Role
The Director of Resident Care plays a vital role in shaping the resident experience by ensuring exceptional clinical care and empowering nursing teams. This leadership position brings people, care, and collaboration together to create a safe, compassionate environment where residents can live with dignity, independence, and quality of life. It is an opportunity to influence care quality, support care providers, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents and their families.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee nursing and restorative care services to ensure safe, high-quality, resident-centered care.
- Manage staffing and team performance, including recruitment, orientation, coaching, development, scheduling, and evaluation.
- Oversee resident admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring appropriate coordination of care.
- Lead quality improvement, risk management, infection prevention and control, and resident safety initiatives.
- Advocate for residents by addressing concerns and promoting their health, dignity, independence, and well-being.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care with physicians, pharmacists, rehabilitation, dietary, activation, social work, hospitals, and other partners.
- Develop and maintain nursing policies, procedures, and best practices in alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Monitor department resources, budgets, supplies, and pharmaceutical inventory to support efficient operations.
- Provide nursing leadership and reporting to the Executive Director, Professional Advisory Committee, and other key stakeholders.
- Support the overall administration and strategic priorities of the LTC home.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, including 1 year experience in Geriatrics, Rehabilitation and long-term care nursing.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an RN in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting, preferably in long-term care.
- Current CPR Certificate.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Computer literacy is required.
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen.
- Successful applicants must provide a recent satisfactory vulnerable sector police reference check and medical clearance certificate.
