About the Role
HKS is searching for a talented Designer to join their Sports team. This role involves exercising independent judgment, collaborating on exceptional design and delivery for clients, and contributing original and ingenious solutions to project and design challenges.
Responsibilities
- Compile data and perform design computations in collaboration with the project team.
- Collaborate with senior designers and project teams on conceptual designs, presentations, design development, and production to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Apply creative design concepts to projects and expand on the concepts of others.
- Participate in project proposals to develop design solutions.
- Understand and apply industry-standard construction techniques, building regulations, and engineering principles to project plans.
- Support design efforts and client presentations to develop client relationships.
- Develop, modify, and review drawings to incorporate design intent.
- Produce graphic presentations, 3D renderings, and implementation documents.
- Collaborate on the development of design throughout appropriate project phases.
- Assist in researching material requirements and costs for projects.
- Prepare presentation/design drawings and potentially build models for client/project team review.
- Organize and deliver complete project design presentations to client user groups or public forums.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives.
- Resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions.
- Manage client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination.
- Support the firm’s cultural values, including a commitment to quality, innovation, learning, and growth.
- Act as a mentor by coaching and motivating project team members.
- Seek leadership opportunities by providing direction and feedback to team members and collaborating with team leaders.
- Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with the project team.
- Promote the firm’s principles of ‘design excellence’ through the integration of responsible and sustainable design practice with the art of design, including understanding mindful materials evaluation and selection.
- Understand fundamental accounting principles and the project accounting process.
- Collaborate in delivering a project within defined budget requirements.
- Manage the financial implications of overhead and chargeable time, including accountability to the project plan and planned utilization rate.
- Support the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business, and assisting with proposals, budgets, and schedules.
Requirements
- Accredited professional degree in Architecture or related field.
- Architectural registration strongly preferred.
- Typically 5+ years of experience.
- Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
- Proficiency in Revit.
- Proficiency in architectural software such as 3D modeling (including Rhino and Grasshopper, 3D Studio MAX, etc.) and AutoCAD preferred.
- Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred.
- Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines.
- Knowledge of furniture, furnishings, and equipment (FF&E) and Environmental Graphic process.
- Experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy.
- Strong knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and building codes.
- Strong presentation skills and graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideas.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to problem-solve and apply innovative solutions.
- Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality.
- Travel may be required.
