About the Role
Hypertherm Software Engineers are innovators focused on continuous improvement to make industrial cutting more accurate, cost-effective, and safe. We are seeking an enthusiastic software engineering co-op or intern student to strengthen DevSecOps posture, adopt modern AI practices, and improve software quality across our engineering organization. You will explore and apply the latest technologies in automation, secure development, AI-assisted engineering, and quality improvement, contributing to practical initiatives that make software delivery safer, faster, and more reliable.
Responsibilities
- Support DevSecOps improvement initiatives, including secure coding practices, CI/CD enhancements, automation, and development workflow improvements.
- Research, prototype, and evaluate modern AI tools and practices that can improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
- Assist with quality improvement efforts such as automated testing, static analysis, code review support, defect prevention, and engineering metrics.
- Develop scripts, utilities, and integrations to automate repetitive engineering tasks and improve team efficiency.
- Contribute to software development activities using technologies such as scripting languages, .NET, and C++.
- Collaborate with software, quality, security, and operations stakeholders to understand team needs and deliver practical improvements.
- Document findings, recommendations, prototypes, and implementation guidance so teams can adopt new practices effectively.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science, AI, or a related field.
- Experience with scripting for automation, tooling, or workflow improvement.
- Familiarity with .NET development.
- Familiarity with C++ development.
- Interest in DevSecOps, secure software development, CI/CD, automated testing, and software quality practices.
- Exposure to modern AI tools, AI-assisted development, or prompt engineering through coursework, personal projects, or work experience.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly and evaluate how they can be applied in a real engineering environment.
- Curiosity to explore emerging AI, software engineering, security, and quality practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
- Clear communication and documentation skills.
- Collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
