About the Role
NYSERDA is seeking law students for a paid internship or unpaid externship to support its mission of advancing New York's energy transition through research, writing, and legal assistance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and writing on energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy resiliency, building codes, product standards, climate change, State Environmental Quality Review Act, Freedom of Information Law, Open Meetings Law, and State Ethics Law.
- Review documents and research nuclear waste and environmental issues concerning the Western New York Nuclear Service Center (West Valley).
- Assist attorneys in researching contracting provisions and preparing/reviewing contracting documents.
- Assist in preparing responses to Freedom of Information Law requests and other information requests, including subpoenas.
- Perform other assigned tasks.
- Demonstrate respect, equity, and inclusive behavior and practices in a diverse workforce and community.
Requirements
- Current student attending an accredited law school.
- Ability to work in-person at NYSERDA’s Albany or NYC location half-time.
Skills
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficiency with Lexis Advance.
- Proficiency with other legal research resources.
- Demonstrated ability to research primary and secondary sources.
- Skill in managing multiple activities.
- Skill in delivering on commitments.
- Skill in operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment.
- Strong work ethic.
