About the Role
AstraZeneca's vision in Cell Therapy is to transform the CAR-T experience with a commitment to cure and access for every patient. This role serves as the local medical voice of AZ in cell therapy and myeloma, building a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes in the Pacific Northwest territory.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain scientific relationships with hematology/cell therapy thought leaders, investigators, and appropriate HCPs across academic and community centers.
- Engage in scientific exchanges with the multidisciplinary team, including hematologists/oncologists, cell therapy physicians, APPs, pharmacists, apheresis and cell processing staff, and nursing.
- Respond to unsolicited requests for scientific and product information in accordance with company policy.
- Establish oneself as a trusted scientific advisor, peer, and expert to internal stakeholders and external HCPs.
- Educate cell therapy provider teams on disease state, CAR-T mechanism of action, multiple myeloma therapeutic landscape, safety, clinical management, manufacturing processes, and infusion center data.
- Support the implementation of cell therapy infusions by assisting healthcare providers in navigating complexity and diverse stakeholder groups.
- Gather and synthesize site-level insights from physician leadership and HCPs, communicating them to medical leadership and relevant internal partners.
- Identify data and educational gaps through discussions with External Scientific Experts (ESE) to inform medical affairs strategy and address unmet patient needs.
- Identify opportunities to partner with HCPs on disease state initiatives, collaborative research projects, and investigator-sponsored research (ISR).
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Research and Development (R&D).
- Support and represent Medical Affairs at relevant congresses and scientific meetings through scientific exchange, medical booth coverage, and sharing insights.
Requirements
- Advanced scientific degree required (i.e. PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, PA or NP) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in hematology/oncology with at least 2 years in a field medical or equivalent scientific engagement role, preferably in cell therapy and/or multiple myeloma.
- Ability to express ideas clearly in written documentation, one-on-one conversations, and small group dialogues, distilling complexity into key messages and scientific narrative.
- Experience supporting the development and/or launch of a new pharmaceutical product in the U.S.
- Experience operating in a matrixed environment with cross-functional partners in Medical Affairs, Commercial, and R&D.
- Ability to travel (40-60% by car, train, and plane domestic).
