About the Role

We are looking for an exceptional Executive Business Partner to make our leaders and Merge Labs more effective. This role involves excellence in executive support fundamentals like scheduling, preparation, logistics, and communication. The ideal candidate will use strong judgment to help allocate scarce executive time and attention, acting as a thought partner to leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Shape how leaders spend their time by managing complex calendars and proactively reconfiguring meetings.
  • Protect focus and preparation time, making routine prioritization calls based on company priorities and executive preferences.
  • Surface business tradeoffs to the executive rather than acting as a gatekeeper.
  • Develop working cadences that reflect how each leader operates best.
  • Reduce contextless meetings and coordination failures.
  • Take increasing ownership of inbox and communication triage as trust is established.
  • Create useful morning/evening digests and link appropriate pre-reads to upcoming meetings.
  • Flag missing preparation and proactively carve out time for actions requiring executive attention.
  • Improve how information and decisions flow through the company by maintaining visibility into priorities, decisions, and ownership.
  • Surface issues requiring leadership alignment before they become blockers.
  • Ensure important leadership decisions reach those responsible for execution.
  • Steward important external relationships by maintaining an organized view of key contacts and tracking relationship history.
  • Coordinate visits, dinners, demonstrations, scientific meetings, and partner reviews.
  • Help leadership sequence outreach to ensure consistent attention to important relationships.
  • Own travel end-to-end, learning each executive's preferences.
  • Manage Merge-related receipts and expenses.
  • Coordinate executive and team events, and external partner visits.
  • Act as a credible, high-presence host for important visitors.
  • Handle highly confidential personal and professional information with discretion.
  • Coordinate occasional personal logistics that would otherwise materially disrupt an executive's workday.

Requirements

  • Supported founders or similarly demanding senior leaders and can point to specific ways you made them more effective.
  • Exceptional prioritization judgment, thinking in terms of context, tradeoffs, and leverage.
  • Ability to anticipate what a leader is likely to care about and make confident routine calls and recommendations.
  • Ability to know when a decision belongs with the executive rather than with you.
  • Ability to support different leadership styles and build appropriate structure.
  • Ability to learn how different people work, create systems that fit them, and provide tactful feedback.
  • Unusual ability to see what will happen next, prevent problems, and close loops.
  • Proactive communication when blocked, managing up rather than waiting to be chased.
  • Enjoy bringing order to complexity.
  • AI-native operator who looks for ways to delegate repetitive work, synthesize information, prepare context, and automate workflows.
  • Ability to absorb confidential context without becoming political or indiscreet.
  • Clear communication, strong judgment about sharing information, and building trust through consistency and discretion.
  • Warmth, optimism, and presence to represent leaders credibly.
  • Intellectual curiosity about the science, engineering, people, and strategy behind the organization.
  • Excited by Merge's mission and desire for work to enable ambitious scientific research.
  • Care about building the operational foundation that lets scientists move faster.
  • Experience supporting scientific or engineering founders, particularly leaders with academic or research backgrounds, would be especially valuable.
