About the Role
As a Senior Engineer at Magical, you will build and own the systems powering AI agents. You will set technical direction, drive delivery, enhance team effectiveness, and take end-to-end ownership of core systems for a platform that orchestrates long-running, high-stakes healthcare workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design and build backend and full-stack systems for AI agents and healthcare automations
- Set technical direction within a project or product area, especially when requirements are ambiguous
- Build features for automation creation, workflow pathways, testing, editing, and production run reporting
- Improve runtime reliability through systems for run state management, queues, idempotency, error classification, alerts, and dashboards
- Own critical services from architecture through deployment, monitoring, and iteration
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience
- Experience building and owning backend systems deployed in production
- Ability to turn ambiguous product requirements into a clear technical plan
- Strong systems design skills including distributed systems, databases, APIs, queues, async workflows, and observability
- Experience integrating AI tools into development workflow and willingness to experiment with new approaches
- Strong bias for action: ship, learn, prioritize ruthlessly, and iterate quickly
- Takes full ownership of systems and enjoys mentoring teammates
- Experience building platform, infrastructure, or workflow systems at scale
- Experience building agentic products or agent-based workflows
- Experience integrating LLMs or AI models into production backend systems
- Background in event-driven architectures, workflow engines, observability, or runtime reliability
- Experience in healthcare operations or revenue cycle management
