About the Role
Wayve is seeking a Legal Counsel (Commercial) in London to support commercial matters within the Commercial Legal team. This role is crucial for scaling globally and deploying AI technology, ideal for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, technology-driven environments at the intersection of law, AI, product innovation, and operational scale. The position requires a proactive, commercially minded self-starter comfortable with independent work and significant exposure to cross-border matters, collaborating with various internal teams. The Legal Team enables business goals while managing risk, seeking someone who can clearly explain risks, exercise sound judgment, and find practical solutions in ambiguous situations.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including supplier, software/SaaS, services, operational contracts, and bespoke agreements with OEM customers and Tier 1 suppliers, often involving IP, data, privacy, and technology issues.
- Advise on intellectual property, AI and data usage, and general commercial matters in partnership with the Legal team and external counsel, including novel and emerging legal areas at the intersection of law and AI.
- Advise the People team on employment and HR matters for Wayve’s global workforce, collaborating with local counsel for specialist advice.
- Advise on data protection and privacy matters, supporting data use and sharing for Wayve's products, commercial relationships, and AI development.
- Improve and develop scalable processes, templates, playbooks, and governance structures to support Wayve’s growth and contracting volume.
- Support strategic initiatives, international expansion, and new product deployments from a commercial legal perspective.
- Support operational teams, including Fleet Operations, with the operation, testing, and deployment of Wayve’s vehicle fleet internationally.
- Educate and enable the business on commercial risk, contracting best practices, and legal process matters.
- Support other members of the Legal Team.
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor in England and Wales.
- Trained at a leading law firm with 2 to 4 years of relevant post-qualification experience (open to candidates with more or less experience).
- Strong experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including procurement, supply chain, technology, and vendor contracts.
- Comfortable negotiating directly with commercial counterparties and communicating legal positions clearly and pragmatically.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to distill complex legal issues and explain legal and commercial risk to non-legal stakeholders.
- Experience supporting strategic commercial transactions and working closely with business stakeholders in fast-moving, technology-driven environments.
- Strong commercial judgment and ability to assess legal risk in the context of business objectives, providing practical, solutions-oriented advice.
- Experience advising on employment-related matters for a global workforce, or willingness to develop this experience.
- Ability to work autonomously on day-to-day matters, take initiative, exercise sound judgment on escalation, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Experience partnering cross-functionally with business stakeholders and communicating effectively with legal and non-legal experts.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and switch between competing priorities.
- Enthusiasm for tackling a broad range of legal matters, including new areas, and comfort working through novel legal and commercial questions with limited precedent.
