About the Role

Savvy is hiring its first dedicated Developer Experience Engineer to own how developers and coding agents interact with the codebase and surrounding systems. This role involves building software, improving the developer environment, and partnering with engineers to enhance coding agent output and overall developer productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Own developer and agent experience: Set the roadmap for how engineers and coding agents navigate the codebase, use internal tools, run tests, review changes, and ship software.
  • Build the cloud coding experience: Develop the developer-facing layer around compute foundations, including task intake, environment setup, context, tools, permissions, observability, review, and delivery.
  • Improve agent output at the source: Modify repository structure, interfaces, documentation, instructions, and feedback loops to ensure agents produce correct code and sound architecture more consistently.
  • Engineer context deliberately: Design what agents receive upfront, discover progressively, persist, compact, hand off, or discard, choosing models and reasoning effort based on evidence.
  • Own our internal skills system: Enhance the quality of shared skills and instructions through clear contribution standards, evaluation, discoverability, progressive disclosure, maintenance, and pruning.
  • Fix everyday developer friction: Improve CI speed and reliability, local setup, testing, debugging, and deploy workflows to reduce bottlenecks.
  • Measure what works: Combine developer research and satisfaction data with DORA or SPACE measures and task-level agent evaluations to assess improvements.
  • Drive adoption: Work directly with engineers, teach effective practices, and transition successful experiments into defaults.
  • Partner on safe autonomy: Collaborate with infrastructure and security engineers on sandboxing, credentials, approvals, auditability, and controls for cloud agents.

Requirements

  • Exceptional with coding agents: Demonstrated ability to use tools like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor for substantial work, including task decomposition, context management, model selection, and failure inspection.
  • Internal tools with real users: Experience building developer tooling or a platform relied upon by engineers beyond the immediate team.
  • CI or large-codebase experience: Proven track record of meaningfully improving CI, testing, repository workflows, or developer productivity in a substantial codebase.
  • Product judgment for internal systems: Ability to interview developers, differentiate symptoms from root causes, create a roadmap from evidence, and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong software engineering: Experience building and operating substantial production software, with the ability to move from diagnosis to durable implementation.
  • Evaluation over intuition: Proficiency in comparing prompts, context, tools, models, and workflows against representative tasks rather than relying solely on demos.
  • Cross-team influence: Ability to set standards and change defaults across teams by earning trust and explaining evidence, while remaining accountable.
  • Pragmatic range: Comfort working across platform code, repository conventions, evaluation data, developer interviews, documentation, and hands-on enablement.
