About the Role
The Director, Product Finance partners with Manulife Wealth and Asset Management’s Global Investment Product team, leading financial analysis for product launches, pricing, and strategic initiatives. This role requires converting complex economics into clear recommendations for senior leadership to drive revenue growth, margins, and long-term product value.
Responsibilities
- Own product-level P&L performance, including 15(c) profitability analysis, governance, and reporting.
- Lead product revenue forecasting and margin analysis, connecting AUM, flows, market performance, pricing, and expense drivers to earnings outcomes.
- Develop transparent performance views that distinguish structural economics from temporary impacts and identify value-creating or value-destroying products, channels, and initiatives.
- Partner with Product and Distribution to translate financial results into actionable recommendations, targets, and performance improvement plans.
- Lead financial modeling for product launches, including revenue, expense, scale, margin, capital, sensitivity, and break-even analysis.
- Assess pricing and fee structures, competitive positioning, client economics, and profitability trade-offs; recommend changes that balance growth, marketability, and shareholder value.
- Manage product profitability across the full lifecycle, from concept and launch through scale, repositioning, closure, or merger.
- Provide financial support for product rationalization, including scenario analysis, stranded cost considerations, client impacts, and implementation economics.
- Establish decision frameworks and monitoring to ensure product economics remain aligned with strategic and financial objectives.
- Evaluate the economics of new initiatives and prepare decision-ready business cases with clear assumptions, sensitivities, risks, return metrics, and alternatives.
- Lead financial assessments of seed capital needs and capital usage, including expected strategic benefits, opportunity cost, utilization, return potential, and exit considerations.
- Provide business case support for strategic partnerships, including commercial terms, revenue and cost sharing, implementation investment, risk, and expected return on investment.
- Track approved initiatives against business case commitments and recommend corrective action where expected benefits or economics are at risk.
- Serve as the primary finance partner to Product, building strong relationships and influencing decisions without direct authority.
- Lead marketing support planning and forecasting, evaluate investment effectiveness, and provide clear reporting for senior leadership and the Board.
- Synthesize complex financial and product information into concise narratives, recommendations, and decision materials for executive audiences.
- Lead cross-functional analyses and projects involving Product, Distribution, Marketing, Investments, Operations, Risk, Legal, Tax, and other Finance teams.
- Develop team capability through coaching, clear priorities, quality standards, and continuous improvement of product finance models, data, governance, and processes.
Requirements

- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior business partnership, financial planning and analysis, product economics, or profitability management.
- Demonstrated experience in wealth and asset management, investment products, or a comparable financial services environment.
- Strong financial modeling capability across product P&Ls, pricing, break-even analysis, forecasting, business cases, capital deployment, and return on investment.
- Proven ability to translate AUM, flows, market performance, fees, expenses, and capital usage into earnings, margin, and profitability implications.
- Demonstrated ability to challenge assumptions, manage ambiguity, lead complex cross-functional initiatives, and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Excellent executive communication and financial storytelling skills, with the judgment to identify key risks, trade-offs, and required decisions.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and experience with enterprise planning, reporting, and analytical tools.
- Experience with mutual funds, ETFs, institutional investment products, segregated funds, or related product structures.
- Knowledge of management fee economics, distribution arrangements, product governance, seed capital, and fund profitability practices.
