About the Role

The General Manager will create and maintain a customer-driven hotel, inspire and engage team members, and oversee strategies to ensure the hotel, event venues, and food & beverage outlets exceed customer satisfaction, while consistently delivering excellence in product quality, service, and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee hiring, training, and driving a team culture to contribute to the overall success of the business with a focus on exceeding performance targets.
  • Foster a positive work environment, enhancing employee engagement, and driving operational efficiencies with the team.
  • Develop and coach team members and management team, including annual performance reviews.
  • Resolve team member problems and provide solutions, ensuring open communication.
  • Make and approve decisions related to employee discipline and termination.
  • Proactively develop talent strategies and plan for hiring needs and business seasonality.
  • Facilitate and encourage team member department meetings to ensure goals and daily priorities are met.
  • Drive an open, collaborative, and communicative culture.
  • Partner with the corporate level People & Culture department to appropriately handle team member issues in accordance with policies and standards.
  • Drive operational excellence and consistency, guest satisfaction, and revenue growth.
  • Build strategic partnerships and expand market presence.
  • Provide a positive, memorable guest experience, ensuring all requests or issues are resolved.
  • Oversee all operational areas including finance, sales and marketing, housekeeping, front office guest services, and food & beverage (FOH & BOH).
  • Drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, staying abreast of trends and competition.
  • Integrate new and improved technology, products, and services.
  • Partner with the executive team on business and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with sales and marketing on partnerships and events.
  • Participate in community affairs and maintain a positive public image.
  • Meet with potential and current clients and promote the hotel.
  • Greet and maintain rapport with all stakeholders.
  • Travel to attend corporate and sales meetings, as needed.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all employees, guests, and anyone on site.
  • Ensure that all incidents are investigated and properly documented, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Physically tour and visually inspect property daily.
  • Monitor cost control, property condition, cleanliness, and quality of product and service throughout the hotel in accordance with Archive standards.
  • Comply with all of Archive’s standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Optimize financial stewardship, cost controls, and budget management to deliver bottom-line results.
  • Review revenue management reports and make recommendations to implement change and maximize profit.
  • Ensure monthly P&L accountability, review forecasts, labour and productivity reports, and approve budgets.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Hotel General Manager capacity.
  • A proven track record of success in achieving revenue and service objectives.
  • Leadership experience in hiring, training, and engaging strong teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A self-starting personality with great initiative.
  • The ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff and to ensure they remain accountable and accomplish goals.
  • The ability to set priorities, plan, organize, and delegate.
  • The ability to handle conflict in a tactful and professional manner and to work within a fast-paced environment with critical timelines.
  • An innate willingness and desire to “pitch-in” and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hotel operations, including marketing plans, security and safety programs, personnel and labour relations, preparation of business plans, repairs, maintenance, budget forecasting, quality assurance programs, regulatory issues, and long-range planning.
  • The ability and flexibility to travel to various sites on and off hotel property and continuously perform essential job functions.
  • The adaptability to absorb change and fluctuation in duties and a willingness to learn new skills and/or improve existing ones.
  • The ability to solve routine problems that occur on the job and ask for help whenever not sure how to do something.
  • A positive, optimistic disposition that sets the tone for a highly positive guest and team member experience.
