About the Role
The Automotive Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. They will also oversee the work of any apprentice technician assigned to them.
Responsibilities
- Receive repair orders and take them to the stall area.
- Perform work efficiently and accurately according to dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnose malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Save and tag parts for warranty or customer requests.
- Examine vehicles for additional safety or service needs.
- Advise service advisor and/or Team Leader of additional work needed, unnecessary work, or completion time issues.
- Document all work performed.
- Road-test vehicles when required, ensuring customer vehicles are not used for personal errands.
- Supervise assigned apprentice technicians.
- Attend factory-sponsored training classes.
- Stay updated on factory technical bulletins.
- Ensure customers' cars are kept clean.
- Maintain a neat shop area and account for all dealership-owned tools.
- Return special tools to the tool room.
- Follow federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal.
- Be familiar with MSDS location and information.
- Wear and use provided protective items, including eye protection and guards.
- Perform quality checks on work performed through road testing.
- Maintain CSI in the top 10% of the group.
- Adhere to dealership policies, procedures, and manufacturer specifications.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
- Knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance
- Valid New York State Driver License
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.
- Will stand and move throughout the dealership facility for most of the shift.
- Will spend time outdoors showing vehicles to prospective customers and driving vehicles in traffic during test drives.
- Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 70 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Light exertion can involve sitting, walking and/or standing most of the time.
- Work is performed in a dealership service department.
- Occasional weekend and evening hours are required.
- Will be exposed to noise, vibrations, dust, paint, cleaning solutions and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Hazards include slips, trips and falls, ergonomic injuries, and occasional lifting.
- Breaks are encouraged for stretching.
- Training is provided covering slips, trips, falls, safe lifting, and stretching techniques.

- Working knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repairs.

- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance.
