About the Role
The Outreach and Education Specialist is responsible for understanding and communicating information about a wide range of sexuality, relationship, and reproductive health issues, working with individuals of all age levels. Their primary focus will be in the development and delivery of outreach programs geared towards reproductive health awareness, healthy relationships, and self-empowerment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct needs assessments to identify needs, present available options, and determine appropriate follow-up.
- Design and present programs on healthy relationships, safe sex, birth control, and teen pregnancy.
- Participate in community events, health fairs, school and college presentations, and community organization meetings.
- Ensure proper documentation for client records and reports.
- Aid and/or refer youth to obtain comprehensive family planning services, health services, or other essential support services.
- Participate in attainment of annual goals and objectives by focusing on education and counseling needs.
- Develop and present in-service programs to other PPCWNY staff as needed.
- Attend and work on various organization committees.
- Attend community meetings as a representative of the organization.
- Complete required reporting accurately and timely.
- Participate in the annual update of reference materials.
- Participate in affiliate initiatives.
- Participate in programs to ensure cross-training occurs, supporting the clinic as needed.
- Work on other projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Health Education, or a related field preferred, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4 years' relevant work experience.
- Associate’s degree in a related field plus two years' experience in a community educator role.
- 3 years' work experience in a community educator role and cultural competence with a demographic population.
- 2 years' work experience in a PPCWNY program and cultural competence with a demographic population.
- Ability to facilitate discussion/teach classes to youth on reproductive health topics.
- Experience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non-stigmatizing.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and at various work sites.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency in two or more languages is sought.

- Ability to lift 25 pounds with or without accommodation.
- Sufficient mobility to perform Essential Functions with or without accommodation.
- Ability to travel to all agency and community locations as assigned.
