About the Role

Hackley School is seeking an experienced Theater Technician to provide technical support for external rental events in the Allen Center for the Creative Arts and Technology. This on-call hourly position involves ensuring the successful execution of events through audio, lighting, and projection support, working closely with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Operate lighting, sound, and projection systems for performances and rental events.
Review event requirements and technical needs with event organizers.
Complete paid training on school systems and demonstrate proficiency.
Set up, test, operate, troubleshoot, and shut down A/V and lighting equipment.
Serve as the on-site technician and board operator during events.
Support microphones, sound reinforcement, playback, presentations, and lighting.
Coordinate with rental clients, performers, speakers, and vendors.
Conduct pre-event sound checks and technical rehearsals as needed.
Ensure appropriate use of Hackley equipment and facilities.
Communicate equipment issues, damage, safety concerns, or plan changes.
Report equipment maintenance or repair needs after each event.
Maintain orderly control booths, backstage areas, and workspaces.
Secure and store all equipment properly after events.
Follow all Hackley safety, security, and facility procedures.
Perform other assigned rental event-related technical duties.

Requirements

Minimum two years of experience in theatrical production or a relevant technical field.
Experience supporting concerts, performances, presentations, conferences, or similar live events.
Strong knowledge of microphones, digital audio consoles, speakers, projectors, presentation equipment, and basic theatrical lighting systems.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions during live events.
Ability to use QLAB to design and operate sound playback and video cues.
Ability to troubleshoot programming and equipment issues effectively.
Excellent communication, professionalism, and customer service skills.
Ability to work effectively with rental clients, performers, event planners, and outside vendors.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to event quality.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and move audio/visual equipment.
Ability to work on ladders when necessary.
Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
Experience working in a theater, performing arts center, school, or event venue is preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency operating and programming Yamaha QL series consoles OR Demonstrated proficiency programming and operating an ETC Ion XE.
Experience designing and live mixing music and/or theatrical events OR Experience designing and/or busking lighting for events.
Ability to use QLab to design and operate sound and video cues.
Knowledge of Dante I/O, QSYS, and Shure wireless microphones OR Ability to read a lighting plot and magic sheet.
A basic understanding of operating ETC Ion lighting consoles OR A basic understanding of live sound mixing.
Yamaha QL series sound console knowledge preferred.
Successful completion of Hackley School’s required background check and fingerprinting process.
Completion of all school-required onboarding and compliance training.
