About the Role
TRC Power Delivery offers a full range of design and planning services for virtually any transmission or communication line project. This role will function as a Transmission Engineer on assigned projects of varying complexity, responsible for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic attachment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preliminary design and budgetary estimates for projects ranging from 115kV to 500kV, including planning and design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic attachment.
- Develop material lists using Excel spreadsheets.
- Create structure framing and details, specifying all parts, hardware, insulators, and grounding details for various pole materials (steel, round wood, laminated wood).
- Coordinate environmental and licensing processes and address related issues within the transmission line design process.
- Site new transmission lines and assess the impacts of real estate, licensing, and environmental constraints on the engineering process.
- Develop project schedules incorporating design, client reviews, licensing, and other activities for successful project completion.
- Prepare plan-profile drawings under direction.
- Develop comprehensive design packages including work lists, construction staking tables, and stringing sag charts for construction.
- Create material and construction specifications.
- Perform engineering calculations to ensure the safety and performance of equipment and systems.
- Coordinate equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules.
- Assist in checking completed jobs for design adequacy and documentation.
- Monitor transmission line project construction for compliance with plans and specifications.
- Act as Resident Engineer on projects of any magnitude.
- Observe safety and security procedures, identify potential hazards, and report them.
- Interpret complex plans and specifications to ensure all project design requirements are met.
- Maintain familiarity with and ensure compliance with appropriate engineering and construction codes.
- Assist in preparing and monitoring complex construction schedules.
- Assist in on-site design or investigation work to ensure the adequacy of contractor's methods.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical transmission line design engineering.
- Proficiency with Power Line and Structure modeling for computer-aided design development (PLS-CADD and associated modules, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER).
- Proficiency with Excel, MFAD or Lpile, and NESC.
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and practices for electric utility practice.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to lead.
