About the Role

Find an innovative, patient-focused culture dedicated to improving patient health and quality of life. This role supports patients requiring urgent or emergency care in an urgent care or emergency medical setting.

Responsibilities

Perform patient treatments assigned by the RN and other healthcare team members.
Receive direction and assignments from physicians and nurses, providing technical support to optimize patient care.
Report on patient condition to supervisors and other staff members.
Coordinate and assist with care and patient flow by initiating specimen collection or treatment within the scope of the position.
Utilize critical thinking skills to enhance patient flow and maintain a high standard of care.
Assist in training new ED Technicians and mentor/monitor ED Technicians staff under the direction of an RN or Provider.
Assist with resuscitation/CPR and emergency airway procedures.
Assist with obtaining and documenting vital signs and placement of oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.
Assist with obtaining 12-lead EKGs, discontinuation of peripheral IVs, phlebotomy, heparin/saline locks, specimen maintenance for laboratory analysis, and Point of Care Testing.
Order and decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies.
Participate in the Emergency Decontamination Team.
Assist with positioning patients and applying orthopedic splints and dressings.
Measure and fit crutches and canes; instruct patients on proper use.
Maintain and monitor medical equipment and supplies for expired dates.
Participate in team meetings and in-services.
Assist with the unit's admission and discharge processes.
Apprise the Registered Nurse and healthcare team of any significant changes in patient condition.
Respond to patient requests and call lights.
Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
Function in emergency situations.
Assist with restrained patients according to policy and direction.
Use clinical knowledge in the care and management of patients based on diagnoses.
Perform safety attendant duties and provide direct observation of patients at risk of harm to themselves or others.
Assist in supporting Environment of Care (EOC) safety checks.
Monitor and record temperatures for specimen refrigerators daily and respond to out-of-range temperatures.
Perform activities of daily living (ADLs) appropriate to patient condition, including toileting, hygiene, monitoring intake/output, meal serving, setup, and feeding.
Provide mobility activities including range of motion exercises, transferring, and ambulating patients.
Use proper body mechanics, obtain help, and/or use appropriate equipment when lifting, moving, or transferring patients.
Establish and maintain good communication with patients, families/visitors, and hospital staff.
Convey needed information to patients and visitors.
Answer patient requests for assistance and participate in intentional rounding.
Complete all unit-specific and department competency requirements.
Perform alarm management of cardiac monitors.
Attend relevant educational and training programs.
Perform similar or related duties as requested or directed.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
Minimum one year of previous direct patient care experience from an acute care, long-term care, rehab facility, or licensed care facility.
Completion of one year of RN education from an approved ASN or BSN program with a minimum of 30 hours of clinical care.
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Current EMT Experience less than 1 year.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and/or Certified First Responder, preferred.
BLS certification within 6 months from date of hire, required.
