About the Role
Solus Canada, powered by Aviva AutoCare Centre, is an innovative collision repair facility transforming the customer experience. We are seeking a dedicated Automotive Paint Prep Technician to prepare vehicles for refinishing, operate paint machines, and ensure high-quality standards in a state-of-the-art facility.
Responsibilities
- Preparing repaired surfaces for primer, paint, and finishing
- Working closely with painters and body technicians to ensure all vehicles are prepped to a high-quality standard
- Cleaning, degreasing, and inspecting surfaces to ensure they are ready for primer and paint
- Performing sanding, masking, feather edging, and surface preparation on repaired panels
- Applying primers and sealers as directed by paint, shop, or OE processes
- Masking and protecting areas of the vehicle that should not be painted
- Pouring paint into spray guns and adjusting nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness
- Operating automated body paint systems for various types of vehicles
- Ensuring painting processes are performed efficiently and cost-effectively
- Assisting in the development of new paint processes and procedures
- Monitoring painting operations to identify and correct flaws
- Ensuring repairs flow through the workshop and identifying issues that result in failure
- Being an active team member who encourages a collaborative working environment
- Maintaining clean and organized work areas, tools, and equipment
- Following all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and handling of materials
- Promoting Aviva AutoCare Centre values and goals
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience in the collision repair industry, preferably in the Paint department
- Knowledge of automotive refinishing and repair practices and procedures
- Attention to detail and pride in producing clean, professional work
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Basic experience with sanding tools, masking materials, and automotive refinishing products (preferred but not required; training provided)
- Adaptability and openness to change with a proactive mindset in embracing new work practices and technologies
- Commitment to an environment of continuous improvement
- Ability to take direction and perform well under pressure
- Strong awareness of safety practices and procedures
