About the Role

The SSOC-Investigative Specialist works in a 24/7 Security Surveillance Operations Center, proactively monitoring surveillance cameras, alarms, and access controls to respond to unusual activity. This role involves investigating and protecting the company's security and integrity with discretion and confidentiality, ensuring the safety of employees and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor surveillance cameras to identify and assess unusual activity that poses a risk to the business, people, or property.
  • Report and investigate matters affecting the integrity of Thoroughbred and Standardbred racing at all Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) facilities.
  • Respond to and report unusual activity, which may include further monitoring, dispatching a response team, escalating to management, or contacting authorities.
  • Document and conduct impartial investigations into offenses and criminal activity on WEG Property.
  • Ensure immediate response to alarms from motion or access control entry issues.
  • Thoroughly investigate reported incidents, prepare accurate investigative reports, and provide reliable video evidence.
  • Attend court and hearings to give evidence or observe and report on related matters.
  • Initiate investigations into WEG employee matters for disciplinary action and suspected internal security breaches, partnering with the PX department.
  • Receive and communicate emergency messages and make appropriate notifications.
  • Sort and prioritize operational email/call traffic and make notifications based on established criteria.
  • Provide support to special events, including retention programs, surveillance, operational planning, and risk assessments.
  • Develop and enforce security measures, and oversee covert and electronic surveillance.
  • Investigate and report unlawful use of broadcast signals.
  • Identify and track crime patterns affecting WEG properties and report to management.
  • Inform Senior Manager of active investigations, results, and any occurrences that may compromise guest experience or departmental relations.
  • Follow up on all investigations to ensure accurate and effective completion.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve operational effectiveness, SOPs, and guest support.
  • Investigate and respond to integrity issues quickly and thoroughly, ensuring appropriate action is taken.
  • Coordinate and conduct investigations into criminal activities and contraventions of AGCO and WEG rules with complete confidentiality.
  • Liaise with Municipal, Provincial, and Federal Police Forces, AGCO Investigators, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Work effectively with SSOC and security staff.
  • Conduct duties of the Security Supervisor and monitor Security guards in compiling reports.
  • Provide support and emergency information to deployed personnel.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office tools and Resolver CORE for analysis and communication.
  • Log shift activity of various guards/buildings using different systems and processes.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of investigation methodology and reporting with a good understanding of Federal, Provincial, and Municipal law.
  • General knowledge of safety regulations (OHSA, WHMIS), labour standards (ESA), and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of physical security, building, and fire equipment/monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge and proficient use of CCTV systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of surveillance methodology, including identifying and responding to unusual activity.
  • Knowledge of installing, monitoring, and maintaining covert camera systems.
  • Proficiency in utilizing phone systems, voice mail, and directories.
  • Understanding of office procedures and department protocol.
  • Proficient understanding of access control and alarm monitoring systems and panels.
  • Demonstrated computer aptitude of Windows, MS Office, and internet.
  • Ability to develop and manage confidential informants and document case information.
  • Ability to prepare files for court proceedings.
  • High motivation, resourcefulness, and reliability.
  • Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with all levels of employees, stakeholders, and the general public professionally.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and utilize sound independent judgment within established guidelines.

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Private Investigator License or Dual License.
  • Must be able to obtain a racing AGCO license.
  • First Aid/CPR training or certification.
  • Requires wearing personal protective equipment when required.
  • Moderate to high stress dealing with cross-functional teams, outside suppliers, deadlines and customers.
  • Regular interruptions, multiple demands and time pressure.
  • Various shift work, including evening, weekends and holidays, as required.
  • Required to work hours other than regular schedule, including shift work, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
  • May be required to be on-call and work overtime.
