About the Role
Shrub Oak International School (SOIS) is a therapeutic day and residential school for autistic children, adolescents, and young adults with complex co-occurring conditions. Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial, behavioral, and social-emotional assessments.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment goals, including ITEPs, FBAs, and BIPs.
- Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-informed, trauma-informed interventions.
- Collect and analyze clinical and behavioral data to guide treatment decisions and measure progress.
- Provide clinical consultation across classroom, residential, and community settings.
- Respond to behavioral and psychiatric crises and participate in TCIS interventions.
- Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation.
- Serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Collaborate with education, residential, psychiatry, nursing, mental health, behavior analysis, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and families to coordinate care.
- Participate in admissions, treatment planning, quarterly reviews, transition planning, and discharge planning.
- Promote consistency of therapeutic and behavioral support across settings.
- Provide family therapy, caregiver support, and parent coaching.
- Maintain regular communication with families to support collaboration, progress updates, visitation planning, and continuity of care.
- Provide coaching, consultation, and modeling to education and residential staff.
- Support implementation of behavior plans through staff training, observation, and ongoing consultation.
- Recommend environmental and programmatic modifications to support student success.
- Develop proactive crisis prevention strategies and contribute to Individual Crisis Management Plans (ICMPs) and Recovery Zone planning.
- Provide clinical consultation during behavioral crises and participate in post-crisis reviews.
- Support safe, least restrictive interventions consistent with organizational policies and best practices.
- Participate in reflective supervision, quality improvement initiatives, chart audits, and departmental meetings.
- Provide supervision to interns or trainees as appropriate.
- Maintain licensure, certifications, professional competencies, and required training.
- Uphold ethical, relationship-centered practice, confidentiality, mandated reporting requirements, and organizational policies.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
Requirements
- Master's degree in counseling, Social Work, Creative Arts Therapy, Psychology, or other closely related behavioral health fields.
- Current New York State licensure in good standing as an LMHC, LCSW, LMSW, LCAT, or another approved clinical license.
- Minimum of three years of clinical experience providing assessment and psychotherapy services.
- Experience working with autistic individuals or individuals with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including clinical documentation and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviors and respond effectively during crisis situations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to get TCIS trained and complete/maintain all required training.
- Ability to ambulate around the campus, including hills, stairs, grass, and gravel.
- Must be able to react and move quickly during student crisis.
- Must be able to run across the campus and throughout the school to catch/monitor an eloping student, and/or to remove yourself from an unsafe situation.
- Must be able to pass TCIS (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools).
- Must be able to bend, stretch, sit, stand, crouch or kneel for sustained periods of time if implementing a hold.
