About the Role

Respiratory Therapists at Toronto Western Hospital provide 24/7 respiratory therapy services across various critical care and outpatient settings. As the Charge Therapist, you will supervise staff and provide leadership to ensure operational safety and continuity.

Responsibilities

Supervise, organize, assign, and distribute workload among assigned staff for efficient and effective department operation.
Coach and mentor assigned staff to foster a positive atmosphere supporting team building, collaboration, and shared learning.
Perform administrative responsibilities to facilitate process and procedure improvements.
Participate in professional development, teaching/educational activities, safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
Manage and maintain equipment.
Oversee equipment and supply purchases.
Communicate and disseminate relevant information to team members and management in a timely and consistent manner.
Observe, understand, and ensure compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Adhere to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Perform cross-functional responsibilities as assigned or requested.
Perform other duties related to the job classification as required.
Assist with airway management.
Respond to all cardiac and respiratory arrests and trauma.
Attend intra and inter-hospital transports of critically ill patients.
Administer specialty aerosolized and MDI medications.
Act as a resource for nurses, residents, and allied health personnel in respiratory/airway related care.
Participate in teaching patients the use of Respiratory Therapy equipment for hospital and home care.
Perform diagnostic tests such as bedside spirometry, oxygen saturations, blood gas analysis, and administer oxygen and other medical gas therapy.
Assist with bronchoscopies and manage all ventilated patients according to departmental ventilation protocols.
Be an integral member of the healthcare team delivering respiratory care where required throughout UHN.

Requirements

Completion of a Bachelor's degree in a health discipline required, Master's preferred.
Completion of an Advanced Diploma from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Membership in CRTO.
At least 4 years of practical and related experience.
Experience in maintaining high-quality practice in the clinical environment.
Leadership/project management experience preferred.
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high-quality work.
Ability to multi-task, exercise initiative, and good judgment.
Compliance with confidentiality requirements.
Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Knowledge of UHN and/or departmental policies.
Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diverse individuals/teams.
Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record, and satisfactory attendance.
Criminal Record Check may be required.
