About the Role
RED-Rochester is seeking an enthusiastic Control Systems Engineering Intern/COOP to apply control systems to a blend of classic and modern industrial assets within a utilities infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to learn hands-on operations, design and implement control system changes, and develop preventative maintenance procedures.
Responsibilities
- Install, repair, maintain, and calibrate all control system devices.
- Program and maintain the Ovation Distributed Control System (DCS).
- Support the development of business cases for capital projects.
- Assist project teams in executing capital projects and manage small capital projects.
- Learn the hands-on operation of steam boilers, chillers, turbines, valves, pumps, and generators.
- Design and implement changes to DCS graphics, DCS logic/programming, and field control elements.
- Support day-to-day field work with instrumentation & controls technicians.
- Develop and document preventative maintenance procedures for control systems and devices.
- Document existing systems, including system diagrams, control cabinet layouts, and equipment I/O.
- Set up data collection from new sources using OSISOFT PI.
- Analyze data from meters, plant equipment, and financial models.
- Set up automated analytics and alarming, and build dashboards.
- Analyze metering for utility subsystems, troubleshoot meters, and identify unmetered consumption.
Requirements
- Currently majoring in Electrical, Computer, Chemical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience working in a Utilities, Facilities, or Maintenance type role is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with Microsoft Visio or AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
- Basic programming experience (Java, PowerShell, Python, etc.) is preferred but not required.
