About the Role
The Substitute Meal Driver is an on-call, as-needed position supporting meal delivery operations during staff absences or periods of increased program need. This role ensures the timely, safe, and accurate delivery of meals to senior service sites while maintaining agency vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Assist with packing and preparation of congregate meals for delivery.
- Pick up meals, record food temperatures, and deliver meals to designated satellite senior service sites.
- Assist with meal service operations, including setup, temperature monitoring, meal distribution, and cleanup.
- Maintain accurate meal delivery, food temperature, and distribution records.
- Assist in coordinating delivery routes to maximize efficiency.
- Operate agency vehicles safely and in compliance with traffic laws and agency policies.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report any operational, mechanical, or safety concerns.
- Ensure current vehicle registration, insurance, and required documentation are maintained in the vehicle.
- Monitor and maintain vehicle fluid levels, tire pressure, windshield wipers, and fuel levels.
- Coordinate routine vehicle maintenance, including oil changes and inspections.
- Maintain the vehicle in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
- Arrange for vehicle washing one to two times per month, or as needed.
- Maintain accurate weekly fuel and mileage records.
- Keep detailed vehicle maintenance and repair logs.
- Pick up and return the vehicle to the designated garage location on each workday.
- Remain available for assignments on an as-needed basis for staff absences.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license (Class D) and satisfactory driving record required.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain a delivery vehicle.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport meal containers and supplies as needed.
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and customer service skills.
- Food Safety Certification required, or willingness to complete training and obtain certification upon hire.
