About the Role
The Fleet Yard Helper is responsible for ensuring mini school buses leave the yard in a prearranged pattern, checking driver inspections, and maintaining yard organization. This role requires adaptability and close communication with drivers and the Fleet/Shop teams.
Responsibilities
- Ensure mini school buses leave the yard in a prearranged pattern, with earlier routes exiting first.
- Verify drivers are completing pre-trip inspections and DVIRs.
- Start the fleet earlier during winter months.
- Ensure returning buses have a full or near-full gas tank in the evenings.
- Report and follow up on safety concerns.
- Pull buses in and out of the yard onto Webster Avenue.
- Maintain the organization of the yard.
- Assist in creating designated areas for 'out of service vehicles' and other categories.
- Sort and safely keep bus keys, ensuring they remain at Dispatch when buses are not in use.
- Wear a uniform and identifiable gear, including a reflective vest and steel-toe shoes.
- Maintain proper communication and professionalism when interacting with bus drivers and attendants.
Requirements
- CDL carrier preferable.
- Endorsements optional.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
