Responsibilities

Performs diagnostic imaging procedures in one (1) or more specialties including but not limited to obstetrical, gynecological, abdominal, vascular work, small parts, musculoskeletal, neuro-sonography and neonatal
Performs portable scans and assists in procedures
Operates a variety of diagnostic ultrasound equipment and monitors and maintains medical equipment
Assesses general patient condition
Documents procedures and events in the patient’s medical record and departmental logs, in accordance with regulatory, hospital and departmental standards
Recognizes and documents pathology; reviews pertinent history in patient’s chart
Transports patients using gurneys, wheelchairs and beds
Schedules procedures and patients; answers departmental telephones; may be assigned to coordinate patient flow
Trains medical and technical personnel such as radiology residents and students in ultrasound
Participates in departmental Quality Improvement efforts
Performs other related duties as required

Requirements

Valid certification and registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in one (1) specialty used at the San Francisco Department of Public Health; AND Must obtain a valid certification and registration with the ARDMS in a second specialty used at the San Francisco Department of Public Health within six (6) months of appointment.
Possession of valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate issued by the American Heart Association.
One (1) year of experience working as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (for Level II)
Three (3) years of experience working as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (for Level III)
Possession of a valid certificate in Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound or another certificate used at the San Francisco Department of Public Health may substitute for certification and registration in one (1) specialty by the ARDMS
Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.
One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).
Applicants may be required to submit verification of qualifying education and experience at any point during the recruitment and selection process.
