About the Role
As the Charge Therapist, you will supervise staff and provide leadership to ensure operational safety and continuity for respiratory therapy services at West Park Healthcare Centre.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, organize, assign, and distribute workload among assigned staff.
- Coach and mentor assigned staff and students.
- Perform administrative responsibilities to facilitate process/procedure improvements.
- Participate in professional development, teaching/educational activities, and safety/quality improvement initiatives.
- Manage and maintain equipment.
- Oversee equipment and supply purchases.
- Communicate and disseminate relevant information to team members and management.
- Ensure compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Adhere to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform cross-functional responsibilities as assigned or requested.
- Perform other duties related to the job classification.
- Assist with airway management.
- Respond to all cardiac and respiratory arrests, code blues, and rapid responses.
- Attend intra and inter-hospital transports of patients.
- Administer specialty aerosolized and MDI medications.
- Act as a resource for nurses, residents, and allied health personnel in respiratory/airway related care.
- Teach patients, families, and caregivers the use of Respiratory Therapy equipment.
- Perform diagnostic tests such as bedside spirometry, oxygen saturations, and blood gas analysis.
- Administer oxygen and other medical gas therapy.
- Assist with bronchoscopies and manage all ventilated patients.
- Deliver respiratory care as required throughout West Park Healthcare Centre.
Requirements
- Completion of a Bachelor's degree in a health discipline required, Master's preferred.
- Completion of an Advanced Diploma from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Membership CRTO.
- At least 4 years of practical and related experience.
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within Respiratory Therapy preferred.
- Experience in maintaining high-quality practice in the clinical environment.
- Leadership/project management experience preferred.
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to produce high-quality work.
- Ability to multi-task, exercise initiative, and good judgment.
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements.
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of UHN and/or departmental policies.
- Client service oriented.
- Ability to effectively work with diverse individuals/teams.
- Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record, and satisfactory attendance.
- Criminal Record Check may be required.
