About the Role
Under the direction of the Assistant Program Administrator, the counselor creates a safe and secure environment to help youth gain self-control, aid in emotion regulation and develop positive social skills.
Responsibilities
- Implement and facilitate agency practices including policies, procedures and Crisis Residence routine including recreational activities, group meetings, meals, bedtimes and any additional program activities
- Ensure a clean, safe, therapeutic and healthy environment within the Crisis Residence
- Provide supervision of youth ensuring opportunities to teach and role model during all aspects of agency programming, while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Transport youth in the agency vehicle to medical services or appointments as needed to increase their sense of health, well-being and safety
- Assist in the intake/admissions process for potential Crisis Residence youth as indicated
- Ensure assigned paperwork is thorough and accurate
- Maintain relationships with law enforcement, health providers and other outside agencies that may provide services or referrals
- Attend and contribute to all scheduled meetings including weekly staff meetings, supervision, in-services and other meetings as directed by the Crisis Residence Assistant Program Administrator
Requirements
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with youth
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively
- Must be able to meet written, physical and life space interview testing standards as outlined by the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) curriculum
- Strong and professional communication skills both verbally and in writing
- Valid driver’s license preferred

Experience Level
- Two (2) years experience working in related field my be substituted for degree
