About the Role

Hotel Nikko San Francisco is seeking a Part-Time Banquet House Person responsible for setting up and breaking down banquet rooms, handling various service needs, and ensuring rooms meet hotel standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up meeting and banquet rooms following written/verbal instructions and diagrams.
  • Transport equipment, including tables, chairs, glassware, and boxes, between storage and event rooms.
  • Provide requested service during meeting breaks and parties.
  • Break down meeting and banquet rooms after functions.
  • Transport supplies to appropriate storage or cleaning facilities.
  • Ensure rooms are cleaned according to hotel standards and procedures.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of the workstation.
  • Replenish silverware and linen to meet standards.
  • Inspect all equipment and report any problems.
  • Follow up to ensure problem correction.
  • Interact with supervisors, guests, and co-workers courteously.
  • Comply with supervisor's directions to ensure guest and staff satisfaction.
  • Attend to guest requests or complaints when appropriate, and inform supervisors of unresolvable issues.
  • Secure banquets equipment before, during, and after functions.
  • Lock or unlock rooms as requested by guests.
  • Sign keys in and out.
  • Perform duties as assigned.
  • Handle equipment, including china and glassware, carefully to avoid damage.
  • Participate in departmental and hotel-wide meetings.
  • Understand and comply with safety precautions for chemical use.

Requirements

  • Functional ability to communicate verbally and in writing to take food orders and ensure proper food is served.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations with units of measure, including dollars and cents.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to handle equipment carefully to avoid breakage or damage.
  • Ability to understand and comply with safety precautions in the use of chemicals.
  • Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered.
  • Background check required for applicants working directly with at-risk populations.

Skills

  • Knowledge and ability to set up and breakdown meetings and banquet rooms.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain state and federal health code standards.

Experience Level

  • One to two years of housekeeping, banquets, or other type of room setup experience in a first-class food service establishment.
