About the Role
This position aims to maximize sales and profits for Amazon's fresh, processed food, and daily necessities categories, including Amazon Fresh, Amazon Now, and Express Mart. Responsibilities include category strategy development, assortment optimization for new products, seasons, and regions, product planning, and enhancing customer convenience and satisfaction through efficient operations. This involves strategic product sourcing, sales planning using web tools, and planning/executing promotions and branding for seasonal items. The role requires independent execution of duties based on business direction.
Responsibilities
- Setting and managing sales and profit targets for the assigned category.
- Monitoring and managing key metrics such as sales, profit, and conversion rates.
- Analyzing progress towards goals and proposing or implementing necessary improvements.
- Actively participating in annual and quarterly goal-setting processes.
- Analyzing sales data and market trends to develop, implement, and refine sales strategies.
- Utilizing internal sales data and external market data for analysis.
- Reflecting changes in seasons, trends, and customer needs in assortment and pricing strategies.
- Tracking competitor activities to identify and report opportunities and challenges.
- Optimizing product assortment for new products, seasonal items, and regional needs.
- Investigating, selecting, and registering new products, seasonal items, and region-specific products.
- Evaluating existing assortment performance and proposing additions, replacements, or discontinuations.
- Analyzing regional food culture and consumer preferences to inform assortment decisions.
- Selecting and developing optimal suppliers and optimizing purchasing conditions.
- Driving the investigation, evaluation, and selection process for new suppliers.
- Optimizing conditions such as price, lead time, and minimum order quantity through negotiations with existing suppliers.
- Identifying and mitigating supply chain risks, including stockouts, quality issues, and logistics costs.
- Establishing and strengthening partnerships with distributors and manufacturers through regular communication.
- Conducting regular business reviews with key suppliers to maintain strong relationships.
- Supporting the development and execution of joint business plans with suppliers.
- Identifying supplier challenges and collaborating with internal stakeholders to resolve them.
- Planning and executing web-based promotion plans in collaboration with relevant parties.
- Developing promotion plans for events like Prime Day and seasonal events, and executing them with suppliers and internal teams.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of advertising, special sales, and in-store promotions and proposing improvements.
- Planning and promoting branding and content initiatives in collaboration with manufacturers.
- Collaborating closely with internal departments (e.g., category managers, inventory control, web production, marketing) to improve efficiency and quality.
- Working with inventory and demand planning teams to prevent and resolve stockouts and excess inventory.
- Collaborating with marketing and web teams to improve product page quality and execute promotions.
- Proactively sharing information and coordinating with related departments.
- Participating in and contributing to projects involving APAC and global teams, providing insights on the Japanese market.
- Participating as a member in projects led by the APAC regional team and sharing Japanese market conditions.
- Researching and analyzing the adaptation and deployment of global best practices to the Japanese market.
- Contributing to regular performance reporting to global teams.
- Participating in and contributing to various projects impacting the entire department.
- Participating as a member in projects such as new city expansions and new service launches.
- Contributing expertise in the assigned area to improve the quality of project outputs.
- Applying learnings from projects to assigned duties for continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 3+ years of practical experience as a buyer, merchandiser, or vendor manager in the retail, food, or consumer goods industry.
- Practical experience in managing sales and profits for the assigned category.
- Proven track record of data-driven decision-making and proposals (experience with Excel and data analysis tools).
- Experience in smooth communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Business-level Japanese (native equivalent) and English reading/writing proficiency.
- Experience managing large data sets and utilizing them to drive performance and process improvements.
- Experience in vendor negotiations, pricing and promotion, inventory management, and product development.
