About the Role
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring safe and affordable housing is provided and maintained for tenants. This role involves performing skilled maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other physical structures, troubleshooting, and implementing general and preventative maintenance programs. The technician will also provide onsite support, assist with training, conduct inspections, and respond to emergencies, upholding the Agency Mission and Best Practices.
Responsibilities
- Performs skilled maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other physical structures.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs facilities mechanical components and electrical systems.
- Implements general maintenance and preventative maintenance requirements.
- Establishes and schedules a formal preventative maintenance program.
- Provides onsite support and assistance for building needs.
- Provides and assists with the training of maintenance staff.
- Provides and implements regular inspection of critical building systems.
- Maintains communication with field, central office staff, and vendors.
- Supports field staff to secure services needed at buildings for inspections and maintenance projects.
- Collaborates to ensure a safe and healthy environment for residents.
- Responds to 24-hour facility emergencies.
- Schedules, supervises, and evaluates maintenance staff.
- Conducts building tours and represents the building and agency best practices.
- Attends trainings as requested.
- Takes and sends photos of buildings as requested.
- Covers front desk and answers main building phone when required.
- Attends staff meetings as required.
- Provides back-up coverage to other POP managed facilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor Degree Preferred, may be waived for 5 years demonstrated experience.
- FDNY Certificate of Fitness Category F-58 for Fire Safety Director required (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- FDNY Certificate of Fitness Category F-59 for Emergency Action Plan Director required (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- FDNY Certificate of Fitness Cat S95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and Cat S12 City Wide Sprinkler System required (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- FDNY Certificate of Fitness Cat S95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems and Cat S13- City Wide Standpipe System required (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Bilingual (Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Russian) preferred.
- Ability to use basic tools and operate machinery.
- Ability to appropriately assess/de-escalate/intervene in crisis.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule providing evening, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed.
- Ability to respond to 24-hour emergency phone.
- Able to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 60 pounds.
