About the Role
This role focuses on private children law matters, supporting clients through a range of cases and developing skills within a growing specialist team. The work involves assisting families during challenging periods and contributing to positive outcomes for children.
Responsibilities
- Focus on private children law matters
- Support clients through cases involving Child Arrangements Orders, Prohibited Steps Orders, Specific Issue Orders, Special Guardianship Orders, Relocation Applications, Non-Molestation Orders, and Occupation Orders
- Gain exposure to all aspects of case preparation and progression
- Assist with court applications and hearing preparation
- Draft witness statements, position statements, and case summaries
- Prepare hearing bundles and support court proceedings
- Conduct client meetings and provide ongoing client care
- Address safeguarding considerations and work with CAFCASS
- Develop advocacy skills and confidence within the court process
Requirements
- Newly Qualified Solicitor
- Experience in private children law matters during training contract or equivalent
- Good understanding of the Children Act 1989 and Family Law Act 1996
- Understanding of the role of safeguarding and CAFCASS in private law proceedings
- Experience assisting with court applications, witness statements, position statements, case summaries, and hearing bundles
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to build rapport easily and communicate with warmth, empathy, and professionalism
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital systems
- Exposure to domestic abuse matters and emergency injunction applications (desirable)
- Experience attending court hearings and conferences with counsel (desirable)
- Experience managing own files or meaningful exposure to file management under supervision (desirable)
