About the Role
We are seeking a Backend Engineer specializing in Golang to build and scale core services for Hyperlayer's orchestration engine. You will work on high-throughput, mission-critical systems powering Smart Accounts for financial institution clients, where performance, reliability, and correctness are paramount. This role involves designing APIs, evolving service architecture, and shipping features in close collaboration with product, platform, and other engineering teams. It's a hands-on position for someone who values writing clean, well-tested Go code and ensuring the operational health of their work.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Hyperlayer's flagship platform, delivering backend services for the programmable banking product.
- Design, build, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs in Go for Hyperlayer's core orchestration platform.
- Contribute to the architecture of new features and services, balancing pragmatism, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
- Write clean, well-tested, idiomatic Go code and actively participate in code reviews.
- Work with event-driven and asynchronous patterns (message queues, event streaming) to build resilient, decoupled services.
- Design and evolve data models and queries against relational databases, focusing on performance and correctness at scale.
- Support the operational health of services in production, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response for owned systems.
- Partner with Product and other Engineering teams to translate requirements into well-scoped technical designs.
- Collaborate with DevOps/Platform on deployment, containerization, and infrastructure for built services.
- Contribute to technical decisions, documentation, and best practices across the wider Engineering team.
Requirements
- Strong professional experience building backend services in Go (Golang), including a solid grasp of concurrency and Go idioms.
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and/or microservices in a production environment.
- Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL), including schema design and writing efficient queries.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure) and modern CI/CD practices.
- Experience with message queuing or event streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka) is a strong plus.
- Prior experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated, high-reliability environment is desirable but not essential.
- Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
- Existing non-sponsored right to work in the UK.
