About the Role

We are seeking a responsible and dependable Receptionist for our Pretrial Services Department. This role involves greeting visitors, managing calls, and providing administrative support to ensure efficient coverage at our front desk and contribute to the success of our program.

Responsibilities

  • Greet clients and all visitors to the program and ascertain purpose of visit
  • Answer and screens incoming calls in a professional manner while providing assistance and obtaining accurate information
  • Monitor the waiting room to ensure the health and safety of clients and staff is maintained
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to staff as instructed by Borough Director
  • Open, sort and distribute mail
  • Provide triage support and direct assistance to program participants as needed
  • May perform data entry for Court Programs into the database as needed, ensuring accuracy, as instructed by the Borough Director
  • Create organizational spreadsheets, charts, or other documents to help ensure efficient coverage across programs
  • Provide culturally competence services in accordance with CASES policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Borough Director

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or High school diploma with 2-3 years of work experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Respect for confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Conflict management and de-escalation skills preferred
  • Highly proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications (MS Word, Excel), experience with PowerPoint
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure, excellent time management skills and patience
  • Experience working directly with participants with a history of mental illness and substance use disorders
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods

  • CASES’ Supervised Release Program (SRP) annually diverts 7,500 people otherwise facing pretrial detention at Rikers Island to community-based supervision and support services.
  • Program participants include youth and young adults, people with substance use disorders and mental illnesses, and individuals who are homeless.
  • SRP participants have not been found guilty of a crime and are not mandated to engage in treatment or other services.
  • This requires staff to tactfully deliver approaches to help participants tap into their intrinsic motivation to leverage their strengths and skills for meaningful life improvements while fulfilling all court requirements.
