About the Role
We are seeking a software engineer to take ownership of the architecture, data handling, and product layer of a stealth product company's software stack. This role involves transforming raw sensor data into a trusted, usable picture for end-users, working closely with the General Manager and a small engineering team to rapidly develop a new product. You will also collaborate with the Valinor Hub to establish infrastructure and management. This is a step-up opportunity for an experienced individual ready to lead system architecture.
Responsibilities
- Design the end-to-end software architecture connecting data flow, processing, and the user-facing product.
- Define clear interfaces for sensor integration and API work to ensure a cohesive system.
- Make and document core architecture decisions to allow for system flexibility as product needs evolve.
- Architect the split between edge and cloud processing based on power and compute constraints.
- Establish time-series and object storage systems and ingestion pipelines for sensor and telemetry data.
- Design for bandwidth-constrained, compression-aware data transport.
- Implement data versioning and observability for reliable data flow as sensor types increase.
- Build detection and classification capabilities using various sensor modalities (acoustic, EO/IR, radar, RF/AIS).
- Apply classical signal-processing methods and applied ML where appropriate.
- Contribute to pattern-of-life anomaly detection.
- Fuse multi-modal signals into a single detection/classification output.
- Develop the product configuration interface.
- Build the geospatial data visualization layer (common operating picture) for end customers.
Requirements
- Experience as a strong contributor on a small team that designed and built a system with significant architectural stakes (e.g., edge/embedded software, sensor/data pipelines).
- Readiness to own system architecture for the first time.
- Experience designing and operating time-series data systems and message-based ingestion pipelines (MQTT, Kafka, or equivalent).
- Experience handling intermittent/unreliable connectivity.
- Comfortable with full-stack development, including backend/data pipeline work (Python, Go, or similar) and frontend (React/TypeScript).
- Familiarity with embedded/edge constraints to architect around them.
- Hands-on experience with at least one sensing/signal domain (acoustic, EO/IR, or radar signal processing or detection).
- Ability to stand up and maintain CI/CD and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred; GovCloud experience a plus) without a dedicated DevOps function.
- Proven ability to build and iterate quickly with evolving specifications.
- Comfort taking ownership of decisions.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (active clearance preferred).
