About the Role
The Assistant Director of Human Resources will support and assist the Director of Human Resources with the oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department. This position will administer established organizational HR policies, procedures, and practices, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and providing recommendations. The Assistant Director will oversee HR data collection, integrity, and analysis, ensuring HRIS processes align with organizational goals. The role also involves overseeing training initiatives, supervising HR professionals, and acting as the head of the HR Department in the Director's absence.
Responsibilities
- Supervise human resources documents related to mandatory and non-mandatory training, including safety and anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
- Assist the Director of Employee Relations and Compliance with employee terminations or investigations.
- Assist with all benefits programs, including conducting analyses and acting as a point of contact for providers in the HR Director's absence.
- Support the administration of HR services such as recruitment, promotions, transfers, affirmative action/EEO compliance, workers' compensation, leaves of absence, and job classification.
- Develop, prepare, and analyze HR reports on employee personnel information and organizational data, including benefits, staffing, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, I-9 compliance, affirmative action/EEO, compensation, and promotions.
- Utilize HRIS to obtain, maintain, monitor, and analyze relevant data, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local laws/regulations affecting human resource management and advise management and employees accordingly.
- Oversee and assist with HR day-to-day activities and special projects, evaluating appropriateness, resources, and team contributions.
- Establish procedures for updating and archiving HR files and related materials.
- Provide daily guidance and management to less-senior HR staff.
- Act as a liaison with appropriate departments to ensure departmental practices align with UAU's goals.
- Review and audit HR compliance practices with federal, state, and local guidelines, including Form I-9, FLSA, and document retention regulations.
- Identify skill gaps of HR staff and develop/recommend/coordinate appropriate training.
- Identify training needs related to HR procedures, policies, and processes for staff and managers, and oversee implementation of approved training initiatives.
- Attend trainings and stay updated on current HR trends and best practices.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration preferred, or 5 years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years in a specialized HR area.
- Minimum 3 years of experience supervising professional HR staff.
- 5 plus years of experience and knowledge of Human Resources Information Software (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, Kronos).
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service to internal and external employees and candidates.
- Ability to provide leadership to a group of professionals and support staff.
- Ability to understand and evaluate complex issues and problem-solve.
- Ability to work closely with groups toward consensus.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements for workforce, welfare, benefits, and reporting procedures.
- Proven expertise as an HR and benefits administrator with knowledge of retirement planning.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and multiple-project management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare documents and reports.
- Computer literacy in Windows-based applications, including spreadsheets (Excel).
- Ability to effectively conduct and complete work independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to take initiative and be flexible.
- Requires a reliable mode of transportation.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
