About the Role

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education (CBVRCE) is seeking an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) to support the Lead Early Childhood Educator (LECE) within the Pre-primary Program Team. The role focuses on ensuring a supportive and secure environment for young children, fostering their holistic development and well-being through engaging learning experiences and collaborative partnerships.

Responsibilities

Create an active and dynamic learning environment that supports and includes all children.
Work with the LECE to establish classroom routines and procedures for a positive learning environment.
Deliver developmentally appropriate and engaging programming responsive to children's interests and community needs.
Observe, assess, and document children's developmental progress.
Facilitate family, caregiver, and community involvement in the program.
Maintain open communication with families and caregivers regarding their children's experiences and the program.
Reflect children's lives in ongoing displays and celebrations.
Provide timely identification of and responses to children and families needing additional supports.
Partner with community-based providers to address children's individual developmental needs.
Support the LECE in writing transition plans for children needing additional supports for primary entry.
Support children's development with materials and resources focusing on emergent literacy, numeracy, play-based skills, social-emotional skills, and gross/fine motor development.
Demonstrate understanding of young children's characteristics, needs, and influences on development within an inclusive early learning program.
Implement appropriate behavior guidance strategies for young children in accordance with School Board and EECD policies.
Collaborate with the LECE to ensure pre-primary students are welcomed and integrated into the school community.
Adhere to food and nutrition guidelines and provide nutritious snacks.
Assist the LECE in daily classroom management, including organizing programming, student support, special events, and extra-curricular activities.
Participate in a comprehensive, ongoing evaluation of the Pre-primary program via the Continuous Quality Improvement process.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience using a play-based pedagogy and child-centered, developmentally appropriate practices.
Ability to translate theory and best practices into action in early childhood settings.
Experience with developmentally appropriate observation, documentation, and authentic assessment strategies.
Experience working with children and families with diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences, and developmental needs.
Ability to create inclusive and responsive early learning environments that support the diverse and special needs of all children.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Computer skills suitable for report writing and internet research/applications.
Valid Standard First Aid.

Experience Level

Recent experience with young children (birth to age six) in a Pre-Primary environment would be an asset.

Education Level

ECE Level 2 or 3 preferred.
ECE Level 1 but working towards an ECE Level 2 or 3 credential may be considered.

Salary/Compensations

$23.20 - $27.78 per hour
