About the Role
The COTA/OTA is responsible for overseeing direct clinical skills, documentation skills, and compliance with all professional standards. OTA’s will carry out treatment plans as established by the OTR and will have documentation signed by the OTR.
Responsibilities
- Provides treatment for residents with disorders of musculoskeletal deficiencies, neurological conditions, balance disorders, and transfer/gait deficits, following a written physician's order.
- Completes all necessary documentation, including Daily Treatment Encounter Notes, discharge recommendations, and other required forms, which will be co-signed by the OTR.
- Attends all required facility meetings, including Medicare, Care Plan, Patient/Family Team Meetings, patient staffing, and in-services.
- Develops programs to help residents achieve their highest feasible level of functioning.
- Assists the facility in meeting standards for state, federal, and other certifications.
- Employs and follows facility infection control policies and procedures and respects OBRA Residents Rights Guidelines.
- Schedules residents, required in-services, and meetings.
- Maintains or exceeds productivity levels and informs management of any deviations.
- Maintains professional conduct, communication, and appropriate dress.
- Carries out other duties as assigned.
- Works with safety in mind, maintaining infection control and universal precautions.
- Reports hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisors.
- Follows fire safety policies and procedures.
- Maintains assigned work areas in a clear, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.
- Keeps work areas free of hazardous objects.
- Participates in departmental studies and projects.
- Is aware of the Resident Abuse Law and related responsibilities.
- Assists with resident/patient assignments as needed.
Requirements
- Must maintain State Licensure.
- Must possess the ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to make independent decisions.
- Must be able to accept direction and corrective comments.
- Must be able to deal tactfully and work harmoniously with personnel, residents, family members, and visitors.
- Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing practices.
