About the Role
We are seeking an editor with experience in geophysics who has a critical eye, a deep understanding of their subject, and interests beyond their specialty. The role involves handling original research papers, overseeing peer review, and making well-reasoned editorial decisions. This is an intellectually stimulating role within the Nature Portfolio editorial team.
Responsibilities
- Handling original research papers and working closely with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
- Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
- Contributing to content and strategy in the area of geophysics at Nature Geoscience.
- Commissioning, editing content such as Reviews, or writing editorials.
- Liaising extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature Portfolio and with experts in the international scientific community.
- Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
Requirements
- A PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to geophysics.
- A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
- A passion for science and a thirst to learn more, demonstrating breadth of interest in scientific research.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including fluent English (written and spoken).
- The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of this discipline.
- Eagerness to travel and meet scientists worldwide.
- Ability to think on your feet.

Salary/Compensations
- Associate Editor: Minimum salary €41,500 (for Milan, Italy positions only)
- Senior Editor: Minimum salary €55,000 (for Milan, Italy positions only)
