About the Role
This position serves as the Taste NY Market Store Clerk for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Broome County, assisting with inventory management, cash register operations, customer service, and product development. The role involves engaging customers about local agriculture and food products, maintaining store cleanliness and organization, and assisting with marketing and social media efforts.
Responsibilities
- Assist with management of inventory.
- Operate cash register and manage cash controls.
- Provide customer service.
- Assist with food service/coffee product development and record keeping.
- Follow up on insurance applications.
- Assist with marketing, events, and social media.
- Inspect the store daily for cleanliness and organization.
- Refill supplies as needed.
- Discuss Broome County agriculture and local foods with customers.
- Provide information about food and farm products sold in the store.
- Greet, assist, and serve the needs of store customers.
- Assist in maintaining a clean facility.
- Follow all procedures for proper management and handling of cash.
- Track and replenish store supplies and inventory.
- Receive and log scheduled deliveries.
- Track product inventory and follow receiving and shrink procedures.
- Coordinate coffee specials and inventory.
- Assist with promotion of agri-tourism in Broome County.
- Describe local farms, produce, food, and products displayed.
- Maintain equipment and troubleshoot if necessary.
- Transport program participants and/or program materials and resources.
- Develop and pursue a professional development plan.
- Collaborate in activities that support Cornell Cooperative Extension.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
- Be familiar with and strive to follow applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
- Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent education.
- Experience relevant to the role of the position.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements.
- Ability to drive personal or Association vehicle for pick-up and delivery of product.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
- Ability to complete basic math in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with the public.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
- Ability to use or learn to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
