About the Role
Wawanesa Life is undergoing a significant business and technology transformation, modernizing how advisors, members, and employees interact with products by creating new digital platforms and adopting modern cloud-native and AI-assisted engineering practices. This role offers the opportunity to help shape solutions that will support the business for many years, rather than just maintaining existing solutions. As an Application Developer on the Digital Platforms team, you will collaborate with product owners, analysts, architects, and other developers to design, build, test, deploy, and support secure and reliable applications. You will contribute to their implementation and continue to support the platform post-launch by adding enhancements, driving continuous improvement, and fixing defects.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support modern applications and web services.
- Collaborate with business and technology partners to translate business needs into practical, member-centric solutions.
- Build and support integrations with internal systems and external partners using APIs and event-driven patterns.
- Contribute to solution design, code reviews, automated testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools throughout the application delivery process, including analysis, design, coding, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting.
- Critically review AI-generated content and exercise sound engineering judgment while applying security practices and quality controls.
- Participate in Agile delivery activities and contribute to the continuous improvement of team practices.
- Analyze production issues, determine root causes, and implement reliable, long-term solutions.
Requirements
- Experience developing and supporting modern web applications throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Hands-on experience with TypeScript, React, Node.js, REST API interfaces, and Git-based source code management.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar, to accelerate delivery and improve code quality, testing, troubleshooting, or documentation.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated recommendations rather than accepting them at face value.
- Experience working within Agile teams, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Collaborative spirit, curiosity, and a desire to learn new tools and approaches.
