About the Role
This internship offers a comprehensive learning experience in children's book design, covering the entire process from concept to bookshelf. Interns will gain insights into the publishing business and collaborate with Art Directors and Designers on title development and production.
Responsibilities
- Attend weekly imprint and design meetings.
- Assist with design changes, including text corrections and minor art/design adjustments.
- Review sketches and artwork for picture books, novels, and graphic novels.
- Create covers and jacket mechanicals.
- Assist in laying out graphic novel pages using approved scripts, thumbnails, and artwork.
- Help prepare files for press, including formatting, resizing, and image cleanup.
- Prepare sales materials from existing files.
- Collaborate with art directors to search for artists, images, and photographs.
- Assist art directors with logging, returning artwork, and scanning.
Requirements
- Must be available to work in the NYC office from Monday – Thursday for 28 hours per week, from June 7 – August 12, 2027.
- Must be available to work in a full-time capacity in 2027 or 2028.
- Open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry-level candidates with up to 1 year of work experience.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.

- Ideal candidates are currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
- Passion for books is highly valued.
- Graphic Design and/or Illustration experience.
- Strong Microsoft Suite, Photoshop skills, and InDesign experience required.
- Passion for children’s books and graphic novels.
- Experience with hand lettering, illustration, or comics is a plus.
- A collaborative spirit and ability to multitask.
