About the Role
The Maintenance Worker addresses the safety and comfort of clients and staff by carrying out general maintenance and repair tasks to furnishings, fixtures, and equipment within the 160 Jarvis and Alice M Walter House. The role requires working safely, within skill set, and according to facility maintenance regulations and policies.
Responsibilities
- Check building systems, maintain checklist reports, and report potential problems to management.
- Maintain equipment logs.
- Follow safe work procedures and SDS documents when using chemicals.
- Perform minor equipment and maintenance repairs, including electrical, plumbing, and painting.
- Recommend maintenance and equipment repairs to management.
- Conduct checks and minor troubleshooting of building systems like alarm and HVAC.
- Maintain a log sheet to track tasks undertaken during shifts.
- Perform checks of the general upkeep of external property.
- Assist in performing fire inspections in keeping with Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Immediately report safety concerns and major repair issues to management.
- Assist during health and safety inspections.
- Check doors and windows to ensure building security is maintained.
Requirements
- Grade 12 education plus two years of related experience.
- Previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning procedures and chemicals.
- Previous experience in preventative maintenance programs and building maintenance.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively and develop respectful relationships.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Familiarity with computer operation.
- Must have completed or be willing to complete WHMIS training and First Aid/CPR.
- Upon hiring, must provide an acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check.
